What does “hormonal imbalance” mean?

It is a broad term, not a specific diagnosis.

Different hormonal problems can cause different symptoms, so the underlying cause needs to be identified.

Can hormones cause weight gain?

Some hormonal conditions can contribute to weight gain.

However, most weight gain is not caused by a hormone disorder.

Can thyroid disease affect periods?

Yes.

Both underactive and overactive thyroid conditions can affect menstrual cycles.

Can high prolactin affect periods?

Yes.

High prolactin can cause irregular or absent periods and may sometimes affect fertility.

Can testosterone be high in women?

Yes.

Increased androgen levels can occur in PCOS / PMOS and certain other conditions.

Markedly high androgen levels require evaluation for less common causes.
