Why do I need an MRI of the pituitary?

MRI provides detailed imaging of the pituitary gland and helps identify pituitary tumours or structural abnormalities.

Does a pituitary MRI mean that I have a tumour?

No. MRI may be requested because of abnormal hormone results, visual symptoms or other clinical concerns.

Why are several hormone tests needed?

A pituitary disorder can affect multiple hormonal pathways. Doctors may therefore assess several hormones rather than looking at only one result.

Can one abnormal hormone report diagnose a pituitary disorder?

Usually not. Hormone results need to be interpreted together with symptoms, medications, other laboratory tests and sometimes imaging.
